Category 4 Hurricane Matthew Destroys the School!

On October 4th 2016, a Category 4 hurricane hit some of the poorest places Haiti, with the eye going directly over Dame Marie. It smashed fishing villages and shredded mountain hamlets with the force of a bomb blast, obliterating crops, killing livestock and leaving fruit trees as bare as matchsticks.
Dame Marie, was one of the worst hit areas and our school and most of the children's and teacher's homes along the coast were destroyed. Linda Brooks, the school administrator was in Haiti when the hurricane hit and we have posted a video she was featured in when she appeared on Canadian news to report on the devastation.
.The school will accommodate students from grades K-9, have administration offices, a library, latrines and a soccer field. We will also offer adult education classes for the community. There will be no tuition fees for students. The school will be built to withstand Category 4 hurricanes and earthquakes and can be used as an emergency center. Life Through Learning will be raising the funds and be responsible for the complete construction of the school.
We hope to have it completed by November 2017 for the new school year. Mission Aviation Fellowship will be donating computers for the school, the first in the city with computers. (https://www.mafc.org/projects/classroom-in-a-box)
